Calum Murphy

Lib Dem candidate for Chiseldon and Ridgeway in the Swindon Borough Council Elections on Thursday 7 May 2026.

“Growing up in the Ridgeway and Chiseldon ward, I have developed a vast sense of pride for my local area and the community within it. Being involved within the local community, I understand just how much it means to the people of Ridgeway and Chiseldon. I want to be a passionate voice who will advocate for the community's interests, ensuring that local people are heard and that residents feel represented by their councillor. For me, being a councillor is an opportunity to give back to the community, by supporting the needs of residents.

As someone who is young, I can bring a fresh perspective, whilst being pragmatic in my approach. I want to bring a modern mindset and develop new ideas and solutions. Working in education, I understand the gravitas it holds; I want to ensure that schools in Swindon can reach their full potential so that students can thrive and succeed. Also, I want to make sure that Swindon is accessible to everyone, even those in rural areas. I want to bolster transport connections by improving footpaths and bus services. I am someone who is extremely enthusiastic about the ideas they present and is passionate about the cause they push, that's why I want to become a councillor.”
